We are recruiting for a secondary SEMH Teaching Assistant to start ASAP on a full time & long term basis at a small secondary school in Chapel-en-le-Frith in the High Peak area, catering for children aged 11-16 with Social, Emotional or Mental Health needs (SEMH).

The finer details:

  • Monday to Friday 8:30am-3:30pm.
  • Pay up to £105/day DOE, for the first 12 weeks.
  • Equal pay to perm staff from 13th week onwards.
  • Paid PAYE via Tradewind, we don't use third party umbrella pay companies!
  • Could go perm eventually for the right person.

Role & responsibilities:

  • Learning Mentor will need to combine learning support with pastoral & behaviour management. They will aid the class teacher in managing classroom behaviour so that teaching and learning progress can be made.
  • The role is varied as no two days are the same. They have shorter lessons and small groups. They use a varied curriculum utilising many vocational subjects to engage students in areas that they are most interested in.
  • Students will often need additional support to access the curriculum, and this requires a strong amount of patience and understanding.
  • Support with numeracy and literacy which is embedded into each lesson.
  • Promote a safe, inclusive, collaborative and positive working environment.
  • Work collaboratively with other members of the team including other teaching assistants and teachers, senior leaders, heads of departments, parents and carers, social workers and other members of the child's multidisciplinary team.

  • Have an enhanced DBS certificate that is on the Update Service (or be happy to pay for a new one).
  • Minimum of two professional references checks.
  • Provide a CV with full education & work.
  • Have the legal right to work in the UK.
  • Some experience supporting children with special needs.
  • Overseas Police Clearances (if applicable).
