Are you a dedicated Teaching Assistant with a passion for supporting secondary school students?

GSL Education are seeking a dedicated and proactive SEN Specialist Teaching and Learning Assistant to join a supportive and inclusive school in Mansfield. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with experience working with students with diverse learning needs, including Autism, ADHD and learning disabilities.

Role Overview:

In this role, you will be responsible for providing tailored support to students with SEN across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4. Your work will include supporting students with their academic, emotional and social development in a safe and nurturing environment. You will collaborate with the classroom teacher to deliver differentiated lessons, provide one-on-one and small-group support and ensure that all students can access the curriculum and achieve their full potential.

SEN Specialist Teaching and Learning Assistant Key Responsibilities:


  • Support the teacher in delivering lessons and managing the classroom, ensuring that students with SEN can fully engage with the curriculum.
  • Provide one-on-one and small group support to students with additional learning needs, helping them develop key skills and overcome learning barriers.
  • Assist with the preparation and adaptation of learning resources to meet the individual needs of students.
  • Monitor and track students’ progress, providing feedback to the teacher and contributing to the development of personalised learning plans.
  • Support students with their emotional and social development, helping them to build confidence, resilience and positive relationships.
  • Encourage students to develop self-regulation skills and manage their behaviour appropriately.
  • Assist in maintaining a safe and supportive learning environment, ensuring students feel comfortable and motivated.
  • Work collaboratively with the wider school team, including SENCOs, parents and other professionals, to ensure the best possible support for each student.

SEN Specialist Teaching and Learning Assistant Requirements:


  • Experience working as a Teaching Assistant, particularly in supporting students with SEN.
  • Understanding of SEN and experience working with students with Autism, ADHD and other learning difficulties.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with students, teachers and parents.
  • Patience, empathy and a proactive approach to supporting students with a range of needs.
  • Ability to adapt to the needs of individual students and work flexibly.
  • Ability to work as part of a team, with strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Have an updated CV (covering the last ten years barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service (or be willing to apply for one).
