Are you passionate about supporting children with additional needs to thrive in both specialist and mainstream settings?

Can you help guide a young pupil through a critical transition in their educational journey?

Do you have the patience and expertise to make a real difference in the life of a child with ADHD/ASD?

We are seeking a Specialist 1:1 Teaching Assistant to support a KS2 pupil with ADHD and ASD needs. Initially based in a specialist setting, this role will evolve to support the child's transition into mainstream education, offering consistent 1:1 support throughout the process.

This rewarding opportunity is based in Headingley, Leeds. The successful candidate will have a pivotal role in helping the pupil transition back into mainstream education, where the goal is to ensure they can thrive and engage with their peers in a supportive environment.

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Provide tailored support to the pupil in a specialist setting, working closely with them to engage in learning and social activities.
  • Assist in the transition between the specialist provision and mainstream school, ensuring the pupil is supported every step of the way.
  • Implement strategies to help the pupil manage their ADHD/ASD symptoms, with a focus on recognising triggers and using de-escalation techniques to maintain calm.
  • Support the child in managing interactions with peers and adjusting to a less structured, busier environment.
  • Maintain firm boundaries while promoting a positive and nurturing atmosphere.

Requirements:

  • Experience working with children with ADHD/ASD in a 1:1 or small group setting.
  • A calm, patient approach, with excellent understanding of de-escalation and diversion strategies.
  • Ability to follow and implement structured support plans while adapting to the needs of the pupil.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to work collaboratively with the specialist and mainstream staff teams.
  • A valid Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to apply for one).

What We Offer:

  • Competitive salary based on experience.
  • Access to ongoing training and professional development.
  • The chance to make a tangible impact on a child's development.
  • Supportive and collaborative working environment across specialist and mainstream settings.

If you have the skills, patience, and commitment to support a child with additional needs through a critical transition, we'd love to hear from you. Apply today to make a real difference in their journey!
