Salary: £11.72 - £12.78 per hour (£20,941.30 - £22,835.30 actual salary) depending on experience
Hours: 40 hours per week - Term Time Only

The School

This School, rated 'Good,' is an innovative provider of education and care for students aged 10-19 with complex needs, typically related to Asperger's Syndrome, Autism, and other conditions. They are situated in a beautiful, woodland-surrounded area in Darwen and are currently seeking an experienced SEN Teaching Assistant - Level 1-2 to join their dedicated team.

The Role

As a Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting their students' learning and well-being, ensuring each child has the best opportunity to reach their full potential in a caring and safe environment. Your responsibilities may occasionally include supporting care needs and managing positive behaviour, adopting tailored approaches for individual students.

You will establish warm, supportive relationships with pupils, fostering a safe and enjoyable learning environment. Promoting independence and personal development, while maintaining high expectations of behaviour, is essential. You will support the class teacher in delivering high-quality, challenging, and differentiated educational activities and experiences, aiming for pupils to achieve their full potential in all areas of learning.

Key Duties:

  • Participate in planning and evaluating learning activities.
  • Provide meaningful feedback on pupil attainment and progress.
  • Support the teacher in monitoring, assessing, recording, and reporting pupils' progress according to the school's policies.
  • Support positive behaviour and concentration levels, adapting your behaviour in response to any changes or escalations.
  • Promote spiritual, moral, social, and cultural development and British values within the PSHE policy across the school.
  • Promote pupils' cognitive, social, emotional, behavioural, physical development, and spiritual well-being through a whole Day Curriculum.

Given the dynamic nature of SEN environments, flexibility and a willingness to assist wherever needed are essential.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Experience working with SEN in an employed or voluntary setting.
  • Full UK driving license and access to your own vehicle (essential for carpooling students on a rota basis).
  • Recognised qualification at Level 2 or above in Support work for Teaching and Learning in Schools (desirable).
  • GCSE Maths and English Level 2/C or above (essential).
  • Understanding of Safeguarding principles and Child Protection procedures.
  • Knowledge or experience with pupils with SEN or SEMH/ASD.
  • A child-first approach, treating each student as an individual.
  • Positive and creative in assisting with meeting pupils' individual needs.

What's on Offer?

  • Full training and continued support.
  • Life assurance and pension.
  • Health cash back plan.
  • Car lease scheme.
  • Bike to work scheme.
  • Perk box.
  • Free parking.

Successful applicants will be subject to pre-employment safeguarding checks, including an enhanced disclosure and barring service (DBS) check. The post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974, and the Academy Group is therefore permitted to ask job applicants to declare all convictions and cautions (including those which are "spent" unless they are "protected" under the DBS filtering rules) to assess their suitability to work with children.

If you are passionate about supporting the education and well-being of children with complex needs, we encourage you to apply and join this dedicated team. Apply NOW or call Paul on 01293 527416 for more information.
