SEN Teaching Assistant
Location: Wakefield, West Yorkshire
Salary: £11.72 - £12.78 per hour (actual salary: £19,370.70 - £21,122.66 depending on experience)
Hours: 37 hours per week - Term Time Only

We are seeking enthusiastic and committed SEN Teaching Assistants to join our team, supporting young people aged 11-19 with a variety of complex needs, including autism, learning disabilities, and communication challenges.

The Role

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will play a key role in helping students with their learning, personal development, and overall well-being. You'll work in a caring and supportive environment, ensuring each student has the opportunity to thrive and achieve their full potential. This will include providing care assistance when necessary, managing behaviour, and tailoring your support to meet each student's sensory and communication needs.

You will form positive, trusting relationships with pupils, creating a safe and encouraging learning environment. Working closely with a team of professionals, you'll promote personal growth, independence, and positive behaviour. Flexibility is essential, as duties may vary based on individual student needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the planning and evaluation of educational activities.
  • Provide regular feedback on student progress and support their personal development.
  • Manage behaviour positively, adapting strategies to suit individual needs.
  • Work closely with other professionals to provide effective support for students.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Experience working with SEN students (paid or voluntary).
  • Level 2 or higher qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning (preferred).
  • GCSE Maths and English (Grade C/Level 2 or above) - essential.
  • Understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures.
  • Ability to follow plans and adapt to meet the needs of individual students.
  • Creative and positive approach to supporting students' learning and development.
