Job Description:
We are seeking a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join a specialised secondary school in the Southampton area, supporting students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, as well as Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). This long-term role, starting ASAP and running until July 2025, offers the potential to become a permanent position for the right candidate.

As a SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teaching staff to plan and deliver tailored lessons that cater to the unique needs of our students. You will provide personalised support both on a one-to-one basis and in small groups, helping to foster a positive and inclusive learning environment. Your role will also involve assisting in the development of learning resources, supporting behaviour management, and monitoring student progress, contributing to their academic, social, and emotional development.

Key Responsibilities:


  • Collaborate with teachers to plan and deliver engaging, differentiated lessons across subjects.
  • Provide one-to-one and small group support to students with SEMH and ASD.
  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and supportive classroom atmosphere.
  • Assist in creating tailored learning materials and resources.
  • Support teachers with behaviour management, ensuring a calm and respectful learning environment.
  • Help monitor and track student progress, contributing to their holistic development.

Requirements:


  • Previous experience working with students with SEMH, ASD, or in a similar SEN role is highly desirable.
  • A passion for supporting students’ academic, social, and emotional growth.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a dedicated team.
  • Patience, resilience, and a positive attitude towards challenges.

Qualifications:


  • Minimum of GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Mathematics.
  • Relevant qualifications in Education or SEN are advantageous but not essential.
