About the Role:
Tradewind are recruiting on behalf of a SEN school in St Helens. We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Special Educational Needs (SEN) Teaching Assistant to join a supportive and nurturing school in St Helens. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting children with diverse learning needs, helping them to achieve their full potential and thrive in a positive and inclusive learning environment.

As a SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teachers and other support staff to provide tailored assistance to students with a range of needs, including but not limited to autism, ADHD, dyslexia, and physical disabilities. You will assist in the classroom, provide one-on-one support, and help to implement individual learning plans for students.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-to-one or small group support to students with SEN, both inside and outside the classroom.
  • Assist with the implementation of individual education plans (IEPs) and adapt activities to suit individual needs.
  • Support students in developing social, communication, and life skills.
  • Foster a positive, inclusive environment where students feel confident and supported.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs (Special Educational Needs Coordinators), and other professionals to develop and review student progress.
  • Support students with physical and personal care needs where required.
  • Assist in managing behavior and supporting students in overcoming barriers to learning.
  • Contribute to monitoring and tracking student progress, providing feedback to teaching staff as needed.

Key Requirements:

  • Previous experience working with children or young people, preferably within a SEN setting.
  • A genuine passion for supporting children with special educational needs.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trusting relationships with students and staff.
  • A proactive, patient, and empathetic approach to supporting students.
  • Knowledge of a range of SEN needs (e.g., autism, ADHD, dyslexia) and the strategies used to support them.
  • Relevant qualifications such as a Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent) are desirable, but not essential.
  • Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to undergo one).
