About the Role:
As a 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with a Year 5 student who requires tailored support due to additional learning needs. Your role will be key in ensuring the student can access the curriculum, develop independence, and feel confident in their learning environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide dedicated 1:1 support, adapting lessons to meet the individual needs of the child.
  • Implement strategies to support social, emotional, and behavioral development.
  • Work closely with the class teacher and the SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator) to create a nurturing, structured, and supportive learning space.
  • Use your understanding of special educational needs to build a strong, trusting relationship with the student, fostering their confidence and motivation.
  • Monitor progress, record observations, and contribute to planning the child’s learning activities.
  • Assist with classroom management and ensure the child is able to integrate into school life.
  • Encourage the child’s independence while providing appropriate intervention when necessary.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Experience working with children with special educational needs such as autism, ADHD, or social/emotional needs is highly desirable.
  • A solid understanding of individualized learning plans (IEPs) and the ability to adapt learning materials accordingly.
  • Patience, empathy, and excellent communication skills – essential for building rapport with the student and staff.
  • Ability to manage challenging behaviors with a calm, positive, and proactive approach.
  • Teamwork skills, as you’ll work alongside the class teacher, SENCO, and other support staff to ensure the best outcomes for the child.
  • A relevant qualification in supporting children with SEN (e.g., CACHE Level 2/3 in Supporting Teaching and Learning) is preferred but not essential, as experience and passion for the role can be equally valuable.
