Supply Desk are a nationwide education recruitment company specialising in Primary, SEND, and Secondary education. We place our teaching staff in day-to-day and long-term placements in an extensive number of Primary and Secondary schools across Brighton & Hove, East Sussex and West Sussex.
We are seeking a dedicated and motivated SENCO Assistant to join our inclusive school in Brighton. This temporary role offers an exciting opportunity to support the SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator) in delivering high-quality support for students with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). The successful candidate will be an integral part of the SEN team, helping to create a supportive learning environment that enables all students to reach their potential.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the SENCO in the management and delivery of SEND provision across the school.
- Assist in the assessment and identification of students with special educational needs, working closely with teachers and other staff.
- Help implement and monitor Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and other support strategies for students with SEND.
- Provide 1:1 and small group support to students with a variety of additional needs, both in class and in withdrawal sessions.
- Assist in the delivery of interventions aimed at improving students’ academic and social development.
- Maintain accurate records of support and interventions provided to students with SEND.
- Collaborate with teaching staff to ensure differentiated teaching methods are in place to meet the needs of all students.
- Assist with the preparation of reports and reviews for students with SEND.
- Support the SENCO in ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and school policies related to SEND.
- Build positive relationships with parents/carers, providing feedback on students' progress and supporting them in understanding SEND provisions.
- Promote an inclusive school ethos where all students feel valued and supported.
Essential Qualifications & Skills:
- Experience working with students with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) in an educational setting.
- A strong understanding of the SEN Code of Practice and relevant SEND legislation.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with students, teachers, parents, and external professionals.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and independently when necessary.
- Good organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Empathy and patience, with the ability to manage challenging behaviours and create a supportive learning environment.
- A relevant qualification in education, childcare, or special educational needs is desirable but not essential.
- DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check required.
