We are looking for a dedicated and patient 1-to-1 Teaching Assistant to work with a child with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) in our inclusive and supportive school environment. Your role will be crucial in helping this child navigate their school journey, ensuring they reach their full potential both academically and socially.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide individualized support to a child with ASC throughout the school day, assisting with both academic and social activities.
Implement and follow personalized education plans (IEPs), focusing on the child's specific learning needs and strengths.
Utilize a range of communication and sensory strategies to help the child engage with the curriculum and develop essential life skills.
Work closely with teachers, therapists, and other support staff to ensure a consistent and coordinated approach.
Promote positive interactions and social skills, encouraging the child to build relationships with peers in a safe and understanding environment.
Manage and respond to challenging behaviours calmly and effectively, using strategies tailored to the child's needs.
Essential Skills and Qualifications:
Experience working with children with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) or other special educational needs (SEN).
A deep understanding of the challenges faced by children with ASC and the ability to adapt to their unique needs.
Patience, empathy, and the ability to build strong, supportive relationships.
Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
Desirable:
Relevant qualifications in special educational needs (SEN), autism, or child development.
Experience using visual supports, sensory tools, or alternative communication methods (e.g., PECS, Makaton).
Familiarity with creating and implementing individualized education plans (IEPs).
