SEN Teaching Assistant
Location: Wakefield, West Yorkshire
Salary: £11.72 - £12.78 per hour (actual salary: £19,370.70 - £21,122.66, depending on experience)
Hours: 37 hours per week - Term Time Only

We are looking for enthusiastic and dedicated SEN Teaching Assistants to join our team, supporting young people aged 11-19 with a range of complex needs, including autism, learning disabilities, and communication challenges.

The Role

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will play a key role in supporting students' learning, personal development, and well-being. You will work in a caring and supportive environment, ensuring each student has the opportunity to thrive. Your responsibilities will include providing assistance with care when necessary, managing behaviour, and tailoring support to meet each student's sensory and communication needs.

You will build positive, trusting relationships with pupils, helping create a safe and engaging learning environment. Working closely with a team of professionals, you will support personal growth, independence, and positive behaviour. Flexibility is essential, as your responsibilities may vary depending on the individual needs of students.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the planning and evaluation of learning activities.
  • Provide regular feedback on student progress and support their personal development.
  • Positively manage behaviour, adapting strategies to meet individual needs.
  • Collaborate with other professionals to provide effective support for students.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Experience working with SEN students (paid or voluntary).
  • Level 2 or higher qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning (preferred).
  • GCSE Maths and English (Grade C/Level 2 or above) - essential.
  • Understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures.
  • Ability to follow plans and adapt to meet individual student needs.
  • Creative and positive approach to supporting students' learning and development.
