Bumble is looking for a skilled Backend Engineer with extensive experience in the PHP ecosystem to contribute to the continuous development of our large-scale mobile and web application backends. This role will be focused on backend coding and storage design. You will join our dynamic Connect team, who are dedicated to building and maintaining chat and communication functionalities across our portfolio of apps. The Connect team plays a crucial role in enhancing the way our users interact and connect, delivering robust and scalable solutions to meet the evolving needs of our community. What you'll do; Participate in creating a large-scale backend API using PHP/MySQL/NoSQL, handling millions of active users, thousands of servers, and over 50k requests per second Optimise backend code, identify bottlenecks, and implement visualisation and monitoring systems as needed Suggest and implement cutting-edge, innovative solutions to enhance our backend infrastructure Proactively communicate with colleagues to refine application design and ensure seamless integration Engage in the entire development process, from initial design to deployment and support Write backend code and design databases, focusing on backend logic without client-side coding Contribute to the design, development, and deployment of services as part of our larger architectural transformation About you; Proven backend development experience Excellent knowledge of PHP, including its strengths and weaknesses Familiar with concepts like caching, sharding, replication, and reliability Experience with containerization technologies, including hands-on experience with Kubernetes Ability to optimise and fine-tune backend applications that use SQL databases and other external data sources Experience with relational databases and SQL, preferably MySQL Proven track record of building and deploying production-ready services About Us Bumble Inc. is the parent company of Bumble, Badoo, Fruitz and Official.
