Are you ready to make a real difference in people's lives by providing specialist debt, benefit, and money advice?

This is an exciting opportunity to join Poppyscotland/RBL, to help deliver a new Scotland wide service offering debt and money advice to Scotlands Armed Forces community.

As a Senior Benefits, Debt, and Money Adviser, you'll provide expert advice on debt, money, and welfare benefits, managing complex referrals, supporting with debt issues, Mandatory Reconsiderations, Appeals, and Tribunal representation. You'll supervise and train new staff, conduct file reviews, and assist senior colleagues with technical matters.

What Youll Do: Maximise income through debt management and benefit calculations, including complex cases like Student Finance and Armed Forces Pensions.
Advise on Scottish debt options (Bankruptcy, Debt Arrangement Scheme, Trust Deeds) and assist with overpayments, late claims, and backdating.
Challenge benefit decisions, liaise with benefit offices, and gather evidence for appeals and tribunal representation.
Manage caseloads, ensuring timely support and maintaining detailed case records using IT systems.
Build relationships with local agencies and charities, providing advice and training on benefit issues.
Assist the Regional Lead with Quality Assurance, conducting case reviews, identifying trends, and providing support to advisers.
Support recruitment, induction, and training of new staff, including managing performance where needed.
Deputise for the Regional Lead during their absence, handling new referrals, urgent issues, and queries from colleagues.
Poppyscotland offers a holistic Benefits & Debt advice service, with the expectation that the successful candidate will develop knowledge, skills & experience in welfare benefits (full training and supervision provided) to be able to support clients in challenging social security benefit decisions via the appeals process.

The role is homebased with occasional travel required throughout Scotland . This includes travel to home visits and tribunal locations. In addition, travel to team meetings and training, usually in Edinburgh, is required. You may also be required to attend national BDMA Service annual events held across the UK. We do cover travel expenses.

Living within Scotland area is essential in being able to undertake this role.

This position is also subject to pre-employment checks including an Enhanced PVG check.

What Were Looking For: Experience providing advice on welfare benefits and debt, with knowledge of Scotlands insolvency processes (Minimal Asset and Full Administration Bankruptcies, DAS, Trust Deeds).
Strong understanding of welfare benefits, including rates, payments, and calculations.
Skilled in complex benefit calculations and challenging decisions.
Experience in case submissions and tribunal representation for DWP and Social Security Scotland benefits.
Experience working with vulnerable adults, particularly those with mental health issues.
Ability to manage a caseload and handle personal administration.
