Red Snapper Recruitment are recruiting for a Senior Building Control Surveyor.
Role Purpose
To undertake technical assessments and make decisions using skills gained through qualifications and experience to effectively deliver the Building Control function. The role ensures compliance with regulatory standards concerning fire/life safety, health and safety, sustainability, energy conservation, accessibility, and design across the jurisdiction and within partnering schemes.
Main duties and responsibilities
* Technical Assessments
* Manage and evaluate a caseload of projects within registered competency levels, examining plans and performing site inspections.
* Assess dangerous structures and initiate immediate remedial works, considering public expenditure.
* Supervision and Management
* Provide supervision and management for trainees, apprentices, assistants, and surveyors under the Building Control section’s management framework.
* Oversee work within competency levels and ensure compliance with Building Act 1984 and Building Regulations.
* Compliance and Enforcement
* Implement the Council’s delegated powers under the Building Act 1984, including enforcement actions.
* Investigate complaints, unauthorised works, and contraventions, and initiate enforcement actions as necessary.
* Liaise with external agencies (e.g., Fire Service, Police) and internal departments to ensure seamless service delivery.
* Project Portfolio Management
* Manage development sites (new applications, regularisations, and reversion applications) and maintain detailed records.
* Conduct plan appraisals and site inspections, ensuring projects comply with Building Regulations and allied legislation.
* Dangerous Structures
* Assess dangerous structures and arrange immediate remedial actions, adhering to public safety and expenditure protocols.
* Undertake out-of-hours work in accordance with team rotas.
* Legal Actions and Reporting
* Compile reports and deposit evidence with Legal Services for enforcement cases.
* Act as the Council’s expert witness in magistrates’ court, as required.
* Quality Assurance and Fees
* Contribute to ISO 9001:2015 registration for quality standards.
* Undertake Building Regulation fee assessments and implement the Council’s scheme of charges.
* Customer and Stakeholder Engagement
* Establish and maintain links with building professionals, providing customer-focused service.
* Assist in developing the Building Control service to attract new and repeat business.
