Job DescriptionThe team may also be asked to lead and / or support innovation projectsThe Principal Engineer CAD, Closures & Mechanisms is responsible for technical delivery to cost, quality & time for tasks and activities assigned to them by their module team line manager.Note that any engineer may be asked to work in a non-core module area as project needs dictate. The successful candidate therefore should be able to demonstrate a flexible approach.The Principal Engineer CAD, Closures & Mechanisms for this role will be able to demonstrate relevant engineering experience, gained from working on similar module area systems design & development in previous roles, with experience from concept to production. Candidate requirements include:CAD operation skills: Expectation for engineer to be able to create and manipulate geometry for primary communication of concepts / schemes. Expectation 95%-time utilisation for CAD geometry generation.Catia v5 operative skills; able to demonstrate high technical competence in generation of 3D geometry & sectional data.Catia v6 experience, is desirable.Experience of using TCUA (Team Centre) & PLMExperience of prior delivery of the designated module systems in the automotive sectorEvidence of engineering skills, including ability to manage & resolve engineering issuesEvidence of working effectively with cross-functional teams to achieve resultsCompliance with company procedures & quality standardsInvolvement in process improvementsMain Activities & TasksSupport the BIW & Closures Lead Engineer in all day-to-day activities.Support other activities as required.Lead the development of 2D and 3D models for closure & mechanism engineering.Store and release data using TCUA and PLM.Engineering BoM development. Cost & weight pack development.PMXU generation – Part identification in BoM for unique or carryover status.Design surface (CAS) feasibility FC-checks. Provide feasibility advice & guidance.Engineering hard-point generation.Implement recommendations where appropriate to create a right first-time release.Participate in cross functional integration reviews for components & systems, considering technical application, form, function & harmonisation of the execution.Drive closure of issues & establish the cost, weight & timing impacts.Support the module deliverables through to the programme required gateway.Support the generation / development of design rules & guidelines.  Engineering Release activity in project support (UPV0 & UPV1)  Closures and mechanisms systems to include: o Side closuresTailgate o HoodDrop-glass mechanisms o Drop-glass o Seals o Latches o HandlesIRVMRoof systems – fixed glazed & panoramicWiper systems o Roof railsExcellent package and opportunity.
