Job Title: Senior Civil EngineerLocation: Birmingham, United KingdomContract: 6 months (potential for permanent)Start Date: Early JulyIndustry: Transmission and DistributionJob Description:Join our Clients' team as a Senior Civil Engineer, playing a key role in delivering high-quality civil/structural engineering solutions within the power transmission and distribution sector. This position offers the opportunity to work on critical infrastructure projects and grow within a global organization. Key Responsibilities:Lead the production of civil and structural engineering deliverables.Serve as Lead Project Engineer on multi-disciplinary teams for electricity T&D infrastructure projects.Produce detailed design packages compliant with BS/Eurocodes/ENA standards.Lead site designs, land development, roads, storm drainage systems, and utility design projects.Mentor and guide less experienced engineers, supporting their professional development.Ensure compliance with CDM Regulations and other legal and regulatory standards.Approve design packages and conduct technical quality assurance reviews.Collaborate with other sections within the UK T&D Engineering Team for effective project delivery.Act as Principal Designer representative and, where required, Contractor Design Approval Engineer (CDAE).Drive ‘Safety by Design’ practices and promote a culture of technical excellence and safety.Support business development by building client relationships and pursuing new project opportunities.Requirements:Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field.Chartered Engineer status (preferred) and membership of a relevant professional institution (e.g., ICE).Minimum of 7 years of civil/structural engineering design experience, with at least 5 years in the T&D sector.Advanced knowledge of civil/structural engineering design, calculations, and systems.Experience with National Grid projects and familiarity with their procedures (e.g., TP137, TP141).Strong understanding of UK Health & Safety legislation, CDM Regulations, and Environmental/Waste Management legislation.Proficiency with CAD technology/software and BIM principles.Excellent communication, persuasion, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines effectively.Proactive in building industry knowledge and coaching the team.Desirable:Membership in professional Health & Safety organizations (e.g., APS, IOSH).Experience as a CDAE under National Grid’s TP137.Training in substation safety, CDM 2015, Temporary Works, and Impressed Voltages.
