And right now, we’re looking for a Senior Communication Officer on a 2 year fixed term contract. Based at Capenhurst location, you’ll plan and deliver a full spectrum of strategic communications activities to protect and enhance Urenco’s reputation at the Capenhurst site, locally, regionally and nationally.
The role will include creating engaging and audience-led communications and content, with a focus on storytelling for a range of stakeholders. Supporting the Capenhurst site and its staff, the successful candidate will be required to attend site management team meetings, give professional guidance and engage with the local community and media.
What will your day look like?


  • Develop creative and engaging internal communication strategies, establishing two-way and face-to-face communication channels where possible to build employee engagement, particularly during organisational change.
  • Local stakeholder and community engagement providing a service of two-way dialogue with key local stakeholder audiences.
  • Undertaking and sometimes managing crisis communications at a local level under the direction of Head Office as required by the Group policy.
  • Sourcing and crafting stories to generate proactive local media engagement.
  • Deliver internal strategic communications activity, including deploying resources and managing risks. Support managers to ensure they are confident in delivering key messages and assist managers in the delivery of messages when appropriate and necessary.
  • Deliver the evaluation approach to ensure all communication activity is insight-led. Analyse the evidence to assess the effectiveness of communication and identify lessons learned.

What do you need to be great at this role?


  • Experience of working in a corporate strategic communications role.
  • Proven track record of delivering strategic communication campaigns that are audience-led, outcome focussed and based on data and insight
  • Clear understanding of the importance of reputation to an organisation.
  • Clear understanding of the importance of building and maintaining relationships.
  • Clear and concise writing skills with a focus on storytelling and Plain English.
  • Experience of using digital communication channels in a professional environment.
  • Proven high quality proof reader with excellent attention to detail
  • Demonstrate a wide range of writing techniques (including press releases, articles, speeches, briefing notes etc.)
