About the role
Carbon offset, carbon neutrality and net zero initiatives are gaining momentum in all our geographical areas. The voluntary market is growing rapidly as well as the demand for voluntary offsetting. Project development demand is growing, with increased interest in carbon sequestration, avoidance and removal credits.
In this context, we are currently looking for a Senior Consultant within the Project Development and Management (PDM) team of the Nature Based Solutions Business Unit. This role will report to the Community-based Manager.
The Senior Consultant oversees the development of new community carbon projects, supervises their implementation, and ensures their successful monitoring and preparation of project documents during the project’s lifetime. They are responsible for leading project reviews to list, validate the project and issue credits.
Key Responsibilities and Deliverables:
Appraisal of identified opportunities: partner due diligence, carbon saving estimation, economic feasibility, legal and regulatory context analysis.
Development and structuring of the project: business plan elaboration, implementation process and technical relevance approval, organizational set-up, contractual agreements negotiation, environmental and social impact assessment, carbon standard documentation writing and registration under international ICROA recognized carbon standards (Gold Standard mostly).
Implementation of monitoring: budget use control, oversee monitoring schedules, coordination of and support for partner activities, reviewing and analysing data and project documents, producing project monitoring reports and carbon credits issuance and transfer.
Contribution to PDM positioning: sectorial watch, contribution to whitepapers and representative role in working groups.
Taking an active role in the team strategy and junior team member’s training/supervision.
Relationships
Reporting to the Community-based Manager, the Senior Consultant will be required to work closely with all members of the PDM team and wider teams, both advisory and sales, to achieve Company objectives.
External relationships are a key part of the role, with a requirement to liaise with project teams, clients, overseas offices, and representatives from partner organisations.
Professional Background and Experience
Multiple years post-graduate experience of acting in a senior capacity implementing and monitoring community-based carbon projects is ideal. Candidates with experience of working in the carbon and sustainability space and
supporting
on projects can be considered depending on their broader expertise.
Expertise on some of the following areas and a willingness to learn others is required:
Technical:
Relevant degree such as Environmental Science or Geography, Sustainable/ International Development, Environmental Economics, Environmental Engineering/ Policy.
Multiple years of relevant experience in carbon project development in developing countries. Associated with improved cooking and/or safe water technologies ideally.
Strong sectorial background and technical expertise.
Excellent working knowledge of carbon offset methodologies (GS, etc.) and the associated documentation (PDD, MR).
Experience leading on project reviews – Listing, Design Certification and Issuance.
On-field experience in conducting site missions/audits, inspecting technology performance and conducting professional in-person engagement and training with implementing partners.
Proficiency in budget elaboration and financial management of projects desired.
Excellent data handling skills and advanced knowledge of Excel is essential in this role.

Location
The role is based in the UK with a flexible blend of home and office working. The role will require regular trips to the head office in Paris and field missions. The EcoAct UK office is based in London, and you may be required to attend the office from time to time for business purposes.
