I am currently recruiting for a consumer equipment manufacturer who are looking for a Senior Design Engineer with a proven track record of taking concept through to mass manufacturable products to join their collaborative and cross-functional team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Apply innovative mass production principles to transform new concepts into mass-manufacturable, reliable products that exceed customer expectations.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with assigned suppliers, with a focus on quality and sustainability.
  • Provide leadership and mentorship to less experienced engineers, guiding them in developing innovative solutions to real customer challenges.
  • Generate design data, including:
    • 3D CAD models using SolidWorks.
    • 2D critical dimension drawings with appropriate use of GD&T.
    • Early-stage static simulation (Finite Element Analysis) to support design decisions.
    • 2D and 3D prototypes using both internal and external resources.
  • Communicate effectively with your team and across the company, ensuring clear and concise information sharing.
  • Collaborate with the broader design team to agree on mechanical, aesthetic, and ergonomic approaches, and deliver solutions using the most relevant manufacturing technologies, always keeping the customer at the forefront.
  • Create and maintain bills of materials.
  • Develop briefs, specifications, and design verification plans based on project requirements.

Collaboration Areas:

  • Work closely with Structural and Reliability Engineers to validate FEA results in line with company standards.
  • Partner with the procurement team to ensure design concepts align with financial targets.
  • Collaborate with production engineering to ensure designs are manufacturable and compatible with supplier and in-house production capabilities.
  • Assist quality teams in creating inspection plans aligned with critical design requirements.
  • Engage with third-party suppliers to discuss design for manufacturing (DFM) and secure initial part and tooling quotations.
  • Coordinate with Marketing, Sales, and Product Management to ensure they are informed and consulted on design developments, aligning with customer needs.

  • Possess a high level of CAD expertise, including solid and advanced surfacing techniques, preferably with SolidWorks.
  • Capable of working independently with suppliers, managing relationships with a strong focus on cost, quality, and design for manufacturing.
  • Take ownership of supplier management tasks without needing continuous support from procurement.
  • Proven track record of delivering designs on time and within budget.
