A fantastic opportunity has become available in the Product Development department for a Senior Design Engineer at a consumer manufacturing company based in the West Midlands.

In this role, you will report to the Head of Product Development and work closely with the team to deliver innovative and strategic product solutions. You will play a key role in advancing the product portfolio and supporting the goal of becoming a leader in their industry. The client are looking for a Design Engineer who are ready for their next step to develop to Senior Design Engineer.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design, development, and launch of strategic projects.
  • Ensure that products meet regulatory standards and performance criteria for safety, functionality, and reliability.
  • Incorporate sustainability objectives into new product designs.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to accelerate the product development process.
  • Utilize 3D CAD software (SolidWorks) to produce models, technical drawings, and specifications.
  • Continuously assess and enhance designs for cost-efficiency, manufacturing improvements, and increased quality.
  • Supervise and contribute to the validation and testing phases of product development.
  • Ensure that design solutions meet both financial and functional requirements.
  • Provide technical expertise and guidance on design-related issues to the broader product development team.
  • Assist in the development and commercialisation of new technologies and innovations.
  • Complete all tasks and projects with a focus on efficiency and high quality.
  • Maintain effective and professional communication with colleagues.

Essential Skills:

  • At least 5 years' experience as a Design Engineer within the consumer goods or appliance industry.
  • A BTEC Higher National Certificate in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering, or an equivalent qualification.
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD, with a preference for experience in Sustainable Design.
  • Strong technical report writing skills.
  • Experience working with plastic materials in design.
  • Ability to manage tight deadlines and budgets.
  • Capable of working both independently and as part of a team.
  • A proactive, curious, and positive approach.

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience in sustainable design practices.
  • Experience in the white goods product sector.

The successful candidate will receive comprehensive training and support. The role requires a 35�-hour workweek, with hours from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm Monday through Thursday, and 9:00 am to 4:00 pm on Fridays.
