What you’ll be doing:



  • Define, lead and grow the Engineering Components team from a small single programme into a large group providing component expertise as a service, to support all Submarine programmes

  • Answering queries and supporting the build today, while conducting strategic planning for the future development of the group and the products, continually seeking improvement

  • Ensure components developed with suppliers are clearly defined, integrated, configured, controlled and delivered, including resolution of conflicts and integration issues that occur through development and delivery phases

  • Interface with and influence internal and external stakeholders to ensure that product offerings meet requirements and specifications; balancing needs today and benefits tomorrow

  • Perform appropriate engineering planning, management and review activities to ensure components are integrated, safely, fully compliant and delivered with agreed requirements for cost, quality, time and schedule

  • Establishing, monitoring and responding to Component Group performance and metrics in support of the business

  • Work with other BAE Systems businesses to explore areas of mutual benefit

  • Ability to travel to other BAE Systems and supplier sites across the UK as needed within the business needs


Your skills and experiences:



  • Strong technical background in Mechanical Engineering

  • Experience in designing and / or implementing organisational change

  • Experience of applying Lean or similar continuous improvement approach

  • Ability to lead highly technical engineers

  • Communication and document translation skills

  • Leadership and relationship building skills

  • Detail orientated

  • Qualified to Degree level in STEM subjects

  • Chartered Engineer or working towards Chartership would be desirable

The Mechanical Component team:


As the Continuous Improvement Manager for Mechanical Engineering you will be joining a relatively small team of 4 overseeing approximately 12 SME’s. This team however is now in a phase of rapid growth looking to bring more engineers on board and to expand the scope of the group substantially We offer relocation support across all Submarine roles, subject to meeting eligibility criteria
