Senior Highway Engineer - Development Management

As a Senior Engineer you will be part of the Highways Design Team who are responsible for developing and delivering a wide range of highway and transport infrastructure projects. Your role will be to deliver the Development Management Service which leads on the delivery of new roads and highway improvements associated with new commercial and residential developments.

As the Senior Highways Design Engineer your duties & responsibilities will be:

  • To deliver the highways development management service including supervising and mentoring junior team members.
  • To manage the S278 and S38 technical checking process, including preparation of fee proposals for the work undertaken.
  • To provide specialist engineering advice on highway development projects.
  • To use your existing knowledge and experience of highways design, design standards and specifications to work with developers to ensure their designs meet the required adoptable standards.
  • To deal with a diverse workload and be motivated by deadlines.

Skills & Knowledge Requirements

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, being a team player with a 'can do' approach.
  • Ability to prioritise your own workload and those reporting to you, and to carry out project design work with minimum supervision.
  • A relevant Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent, or Foundation Degree / HNC / HND, together with sufficient post qualification experience.
  • Actively working towards Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status with the ICE / CIHT or equivalent professional body.
  • Detailed knowledge of current guidance and legislation regarding highways development management, developer funded highway works and the planning process.
  • Knowledge of highway design guidance including Design Manual for Roads and Bridges, Manual for Streets, LTN 1/20 and other relevant codes of practice.
