Job Title: Senior/Lead/Principal Design Engineer

Location: Gloucester (Hybrid Working Available)

Salary: �36,886 - �77,317 (DOE)

Working Pattern: Full-time - 37 hours per week, hybrid (3-days a week onsite with additional flexible working available as needed)

Reports to: Engineering Group Leader

About the Role

We are seeking experienced Senior, Lead & Principal Design Engineers to join our engineering team in Gloucester. You will play a key role in the design and development of landing gear systems for both civil and military aircraft, ensuring compliance with demanding customer and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support all aspects of concept to detail design throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Ensure product configuration management is maintained.
  • Create and manage design documentation, including 3D models, drawings, and design justifications.
  • Design and develop efficient solutions to complex engineering problems.
  • Represent Safran LS as a technical focal point for internal and external projects, including customer meetings.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards, regulations, and qualification requirements.
  • Work closely with Chief Engineers, Programmes, Test Engineering, and Manufacturing teams.
  • Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and coaching to junior engineers.
  • Support and participate in technical audits and design reviews.
  • Liaise with other sites to assist with the offload of work packages.

Experience & Skills Required

Essential:

  • Strong knowledge of aerospace design and manufacturing processes.
  • Experience in CATIA V5 or similar recognised design software tools.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings and create detailed design documentation.
  • Experience in product configuration management.
  • Understanding of traditional and computerised design and analysis methods.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills.
  • Ability to work independently in a complex environment with minimal supervision.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.

Desirable:

  • Previous aerospace experience.
  • Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) training.
  • Experience working across multiple engineering functions.
  • Strong problem-solving and innovation capabilities.

Qualifications

  • Minimum HNC/HND level, but ideally BSc/MSc in an engineering discipline.

Additional Information

  • Hybrid working available (up to two days per week from home, subject to business needs).
  • Occasional travel may be required to other locations.
