At every level, we are looking for bold, ambitious, bright, and collaborative people that share our commitment to making a difference.About the OpportunityWe have a new opportunity for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our Development team.This is a mechanical/steam/water focused engineering role which will provide specialist expertise for new project development and existing plant operations.Reporting to the Principal Engineer, the Senior Mechanical Engineer will provide engineering advice and guidance as part of the design, construction, and commissioning of AMPs Industrial Heat projects that include biomass boilers, HV & LV electric boilers, green hydrogen generation & thermal storage systems.The role will include pro-active optimisation and management of operational improvements to AMP’s industrial hot-water and steam generating biomass boiler plants and other low-carbon heat generating assets.Interested? If you have a construction/building services background and are looking to move into the energy sector and want to make a difference – AMP can offer you the challenge and opportunity you’re looking for.The role will involve:Providing mechanical engineering design and technical guidance across our projects, throughout the project lifecycle, from feasibility studies through to detailed design and installation supportLeading on the design of modifications to existing plant in collaboration with the Principal EngineerUndertaking design investigations and prepare reports for internal and external useSupporting the Operations & Maintenance Team with providing design informationProviding engineering technical guidance and support to the Operations & Maintenance teamsWhen required, be the responsible internal technical authority, providing expertise to our customers on industrial low- & high-temperature hot water and steam boilers and ancillary system, including water treatment and compressed air plantsPartnering with operational stakeholders to perform operational root cause analysis, troubleshooting, mitigation, and problem solving of plant issues ensuring a prompt technical response for urgent issues throughout asset lifecyclePartnering with operational & project development stakeholders and engineering teams, providing both technical and specialist supportWorking with the Head of Industrial Biomass and Site Supervisors to reduce down-time, improve performance, cost efficiencies and reliability of the boilerSupporting the Head of Industrial Biomass in delivery of asset integrity management for all critical equipment categories and assets, to maintain safe, reliable, and efficient biomass boilers and steam generating systemsTo be present onsite to support, provide advice and guidance as required during scheduled maintenance, routine investigations, and emergency breakdownsSupporting boiler annual inspections to drive asset availabilityProducing mechanical engineering documents (equipment specifications, schedules, reports and drawings)Ensuring all relevant Health and Safety policies, procedures, and Standards are considered in engineering guidance and documentationSupporting the operations with routine maintenance and troubleshooting to improve the reliability and performance of steam generating systems.Supporting continuous improvement of procedures and processes to drive efficiency and innovation.Engaging regularly with the Client and stakeholders to build and maintain positive collaborative relationshipsWhat we are looking for:With previous experience of biomass boiler and steam generation assets, including solutions, regulations, standards and operating environment influences, our successful candidate will also demonstrate the following knowledge, skills and experience:Chartered Engineer Status e.g CIBSE or; Energy Institute is essential for this roleDegree educated in Mechanical or Building Services EngineeringDemonstrable experience and sound knowledge of SCADA/DCS/BMS controls systemsDemonstrable experience providing technical guidance for steam, HTHW, LTHW and water treatment systems and sound knowledge of boiler water treatmentStrong understanding of LTHW, steam, HTHW and CHP generating plant and ancillary equipmentAbility to develop solutions to complex engineering problemsAbility to prepare project cost estimates for major CAPEX and plant improvement projects, including investment analysisExcellent knowledge of MS Excel and data manipulation to identify system performance, trends and routes to improvementKnowledge of high, medium and low voltage power supply and distribution systems associated with thermal energy plants.A strong focus on efficiency with the ability to drive continuous improvementExcellent communication skills to build good working relationships with teams, contractors and clientsStrong organisational and time management skills to ensure tasks are completed on time and deadlines are metHighly developed knowledge and understanding of relevant statutory regulations relating to mechanical and electrical plantDemonstratable experience of overseeing frontline mechanical and/or electrical maintenanceWhat will we offer in return?We’ve built a culture founded on honesty, working hard, and enjoying ourselves and we have created a workplace where everyone feels more connected, heard, and valued.
