Our client a leading engineering consultancy with a strong focus on innovate solutions in Naval Architecture, Fluid Dynamics, and Advanced Materials is looking for a Naval Architect/ Senior Naval Architect with a strong structural background to join the Oceangoing Vessels Team based in Portsmouth. Our client is renowned for delivering cutting-edge services across various marine sectors, including high-performance vessels, leisure crafts, commercial shipping, and renewable energy projects, utilising state-of-the-art design tools and methodologies. This is an office role, based at their state-of-the art facilities in Portsmouth.

Package for the Naval Architect / Senior Naval Architect role:

£50,000-£70,000 DOE

Duties in the Naval Architect / Senior Naval Architect Role:

Design the structural integration of wind-assisted propulsion systems on new and existing oceangoing vessels, ensuring safety, functionality, and regulatory compliance
Collaborate with shipyards, classification societies and other stakeholders, providing technical support and guidance throughout the project lifecycle
Conduct Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to assess and validate structural designs in line with industry standards and engineering best practices
Ensure that all project deliverables meet commercial requirements including timelines, quality standards, and budget restraints.

Requirements for the Naval Architect / Senior Naval Architect role:

In-depth knowledge of FEA analysis and recognised engineering procedures
Familiarity with classification society rules for ship design
Experience with advanced FEA software such as Siemens NX or Nastran is highly advantageous
Proven experience in designing ship structures in accordance with CSR rules
Previous experience in a shipyard of design office environment is preferred
Experience in the development and design of merchant vessels, especially bulk carriers and tankers, is desirable
Knowledge of ship cargo handling systems and their impact on structural design is a plus.
