About the role The NHS faces significant challenges in meeting the needs of an ageing population, improving service quality, ensuring financial sustainability, and delivering value for money. Despite growth in the 2010s, NHS productivity has stalled, further exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic. The October 2024 Budget set a target to increase NHS productivity by 2% annually, higher than the whole economy's productivity and double the long-term trend. Comprehensive reform is essential to avoid prolonged low productivity growth and achieve sustained improvements over the next decade. In response, the Health Foundation is establishing the NHS Productivity Commission. This Commission will engage experts from government, policy, the NHS, and academia to identify solutions to the productivity challenge. It aims to produce a roadmap for improving long-term productivity growth in the NHS in England, including recommendations on applying national policy levers like targets, regulatory frameworks, and incentives. We are seeking a Senior Policy and Engagement Manager with proven experience in healthcare policy, economics, or a related field; strong analytical and problem-solving skills; the ability to engage with diverse stakeholders, including government officials, NHS leaders, and academic experts; and a commitment to improving NHS services and outcomes. Our ideal candidate will have both policy and engagement experience. However, if you have experience in one and are interested in developing skills in the other, we are still keen to hear from you.
