We are also a major funder of applied health research in low- and middle-income countries.Job DescriptionThe post will also be responsible for providing expert advise, guidance and monitoring to NIHR domestic and global health programmes, Infrastructure, Schools and Units on the development and delivery of their strategic plans for public/community involvement and engagement. You will work with colleagues across the NIHR and beyond to coordinate collaborative approaches to sharing resources, learning and effective practice.We have a Patient and Public Involvement and Engagement (PPIE) team which undertakes key functions including:Supporting research programmes by recruiting public contributors to act as reviewers of applications and committee membersSupporting programme teams in monitoring performance of research awards against contractual requirements for PPIE, andProviding support to public contributors, public involvement leads and programme teams, including learning and development.Key responsibilitiesProvide expert advice, oversight and coordination of key work themes around outreach and engagement with people and communities, capacity strengthening and monitoring and learning.Driving the sharing of PPIE knowledge, effective practice and expertise at an organisational level and between individuals such as PPIE leads, the public, researchers and programme leads.Providing oversight, expertise and coordination to support and monitor the development of PPI in NIHR initiatives managed by NIHR Coordinating Centre.Lead on the development, delivery, monitoring, review and reporting of our annual involvement and engagement plan, always looking for ways to innovate, streamline processes and maximise impact.Work with other members of NIHR’s senior team, contributing to policy development cross-NIHR strategic priorities, to deliver on a compelling and clear vision and direction for PPIE across NIHR.Establishing, maintaining and managing effective external relationships and networks with key individuals and national/international organisations in the voluntary, public and private sectors to promote and support our PPI and engagement activities, and to build upon shared learning and good practice, and to ensure that the team’s work adds value.Lead on people management: including workforce planning, mentoring and coaching, line management and staff appraisal to ensure the successful and efficient delivery of the programme.Developing and maintaining awareness and understanding of the changing environment including promoting continuous improvement of, and innovation in PPIE, and keeping up to date on PPI in research literature and practice.The LGC hosts a number of contracts for the NIHR and a series on non-NIHR business. The postholder will seek opportunities to maximise the synergies and benefits to deliver ‘added value’ and improve efficiency and effectiveness.Any other duties as allocated by the line manager following consultation with the post holder and balancing overall workloadAbout You To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:Essential Criteria Degree in humanities, arts and social sciences or equivalent experience.Knowledge and experience of patient and public involvement in the community or healthcare sector and/or researchExperience in planning, delivery, monitoring, review and reporting strategiesExperience of working with the public, building stakeholder relationshipsStrong influencing and negotiation skillsExcellent communication skillsEffective planning/organisational skillsCommitment to equality, diversity and inclusionExcellent IT skills including the use of Google AppsExperience of successfully managing and developing staffSalary & Benefits £47,300 - £49,900 PABonus - subject to company performance25 days annual leave, plus public holidays (UK)Enhanced contributory pension schemeLife InsuranceBenenden HealthcareSeason Ticket LoanLaptop, IT equipment and remote IT supportNB: This role is a 6 months contract position with the possibility of an extension to 9 months.
