Quality Engineer

Location: Fareham

Salary: �40,000 - �45,000

Our client is a PCB, and contracted electronics Manufacturer, of electronic equipment and printed circuit board assemblies Working with the aerospace, defence, medical, transport, automotive, education and industrial sectors.

Role Overview

This is a general quality assurance role and is responsible for working with the Quality Manager in the development, maintenance, and improvement of the company Quality Management System, with a high degree of autonomy. This includes identifying, analysing, and addressing quality concerns using 8D, A3 or similar methodologies, calling upon appropriate quality tools. Additionally, to prepare and update quality control documents, plans, procedures, and process flows, and assisting with First Article Inspections, Calibration, and QC tasks as required. There will also be some involvement with customer and Certification Body audits as required.

Qualification Requirements

Ideally degree qualified in a technical subject involving elements of quality assurance, manufacturing, or statistics, with a proven history of driving quality improvements.

A good understanding of and experience working with AS9100 / ISO9001 quality management systems, including internal auditing.

An understanding of manufacturing drawings, specifications, and instructions, with a working knowledge of IPC standards (ideally CIS) is desirable.

Duties

  • Support quality activities in the company, taking the lead to drive quality improvements.
  • Manage the NCR process and carry out problem investigation / Root Cause Analysis / corrective and preventative actions for any non-conformance reviews, using 8D and other suitable methodologies.
  • Work closely with customers.
  • Carry out internal audits of our AS9100 / ISO9001 quality system.
  • Assist in control of the QMS ensuring documentation is accurately maintained and updated as required.
  • Write First Article Inspection reports to AS9102.
  • Liaise with suppliers on quality matters and carry out supplier audits where necessary.
  • Train and mentor others in quality-related activities.
  • Ensure that all Health and Safety, housekeeping, quality and environmental policies and procedures are adhered to.

Framework

The (Senior) Quality Engineer is a key part of the quality and operations structure, acting as support for the Quality Manager & Quality Control activity, and is expected to operate within the framework of objectives and targets determined by the Quality Manager but with the latitude to pursue initiatives that will enable the department goals to be achieved.

Relationships

Internally, as part of the quality team, work closely with personnel within Manufacturing, Purchasing, Sales & Engineering. Externally, to liaise directly with customers, suppliers, and third-party auditors.

Key Personal Skills

The (Senior) Quality Engineer needs to be a self-starter who is able to organize and prioritise their work based on the needs of the business. They should have strong communication skills and have a structured, logical approach to problem solving. Experience in electronics manufacturing, particularly SMT, would be preferable.
