Senior Hardware & RF Design Engineer - Cambridge

This leading global player in the radio communications industry is seeking a hands-on Engineer, passionate about design and problem-solving, to join their expanding UK R&D team.

Job Purpose: Support the development and continuous improvement of innovative communications products. You'll design RF subsystems, troubleshoot production issues, and collaborate cross-functionally to bring cutting-edge communication solutions to market.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Product Improvement: Be the technical lead for resolving production issues and improving the performance of existing product lines.
  • New Product Development: Design and integrate advanced RF subsystems with BT/WiFi/Cellular for our next-generation radios.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with firmware, PCB, and mechanical engineers to deliver robust, market leading products.
  • Type Approval Expertise: Support the type approval process, ensuring our products meet industry standards and regulations.

Key Requirements:

  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of demonstrable experience in RF and analogue electronics design (UHF/VHF focus).
  • Technical Expertise: Proficiency in RF design, power supplies, battery technologies, amplifiers, filtering, discrete component design, digital electronics, and PCB layout principles.
  • Troubleshooting Skills: Strong ability to diagnose and resolve production issues using laboratory equipment and collaborating with factory and test teams.
  • Problem-Solving Mindset: A creative thinker who can adapt and propose alternative solutions.

Highly Desirable Skills:

  • Discrete RF Design: Experience with transmitters, receivers, PLLs, and VCOs.
  • Programming: Labview, Visual Studio, Python, C/C++.
  • Audio Experience: Familiarity with audio design principles.
  • Additional Expertise EMI/EMC knowledge, SMT prototyping, schematic capture (PADS Logic), and industry-specific standards adherence.
