Domain: Aerospace
Location: Bristol (Mostly Remote)
Salary: £65,000 (Plus Bonus)
Company Overview:
My client is a leading engineering consultancy specialising in Systems and Safety Engineering for safety-critical industries, including Aerospace, Defence, and Space. The consultancy works closely with high-profile defence contractors, delivering advanced defence solutions to ensure the safety and effectiveness of weapons systems in demanding operational environments.
They are seeking a Senior Safety Engineer to provide critical support on Aerospace projects including work on UAS projects and legacy aircrafts, for a key defence client. This role will be integral to ensuring the safety and compliance of cutting-edge Aerospace systems, working with cross-functional teams across the product lifecycle.
The Role:
As an Aerospace Safety Engineer, you will focus on developing and managing safety processes for complex systems within UAS and legacy aircraft projects. Your work will involve detailed safety assessments, including fault tree analysis (FTA) and functional failure analysis (FFA), ensuring that all systems meet the safety requirements outlined by industry standards like ARP 4754 and ARP 4761.
Working at the sub-system and component level, you will play a vital role in ensuring the integrity and safety of critical components used in aerospace applications, with a focus on both manned and unmanned systems.
Key Responsibilities:
Safety Assessments: Conduct detailed Fault Tree Analysis (FTA) and Functional Failure Analysis (FFA) for aerospace subsystems and components to identify potential hazards and risks.
Safety Case Development: Lead the development of safety cases for UAS and Typhoon sub-systems, ensuring that all safety aspects are thoroughly assessed and documented.
Compliance: Ensure that all projects comply with ARP 4754 and ARP 4761
Sub-System Level Focus: Provide safety engineering expertise at the sub-system and component level, ensuring that all safety requirements are met for individual components and integrated systems.
Supplier & Prime Collaboration: Work closely with both suppliers and prime contractors, providing safety engineering support to ensure the delivery of safe, reliable systems. Collaborate across engineering teams to meet project milestones and safety objectives.
Risk Mitigation: Identify and mitigate risks related to the design, development, and operation of aerospace systems for both UAS and Typhoon platforms.
Documentation: Develop and review safety documentation, including hazard analyses, safety management plans, and safety case reports, to ensure all safety activities are traceable and meet project requirements.
Customer Interaction: Engage with customers and stakeholders, ensuring that safety requirements and deliverables are clearly understood and communicated across teams.
Required Skills & Experience:
5+ years of experience in aerospace safety engineering, particularly at the sub-system and component level.
Proven experience in Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), Functional Failure Analysis (FFA), and other safety assessment methodologies.
Strong understanding of ARP 4754 and ARP 4761, with a track record of applying these standards in aerospace projects.
Experience working with both prime contractors and suppliers, delivering safety engineering solutions for complex aerospace systems.
Familiarity with safety case development and safety management planning within the defence or aerospace sector.
Strong communication skills, with the ability to interact with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Eligible for Security Clearance (SC), or the ability to obtain it.
Desirable Skills:
Experience working on Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) projects or similar unmanned platforms.
Familiarity with the safety challenges of combat aircraft like the Typhoon or other military aviation platforms.
Knowledge of system reliability engineering and system integration for airborne systems
