Astute's Renewables Team is partnering with a key business and influential player in the UK biogas sector. Together we are looking to recruit a Senior SHEQ Advisor to oversee and drive SHEQ compliance at two anaerobic digestion sites in Middlesborough, with a focus on auditing, risk management, and staff training to maintain high safety and environmental standards.
The Senior SHEQ Advisor comes with a salary up to �55,000 + car allowance and excellent company benefits to be discussed.

Responsibilities and duties of the Senior SHEQ Advisor role
Reporting to the Head of SHEQ you will:

  • Lead and support the implementation and maintenance of SHEQ management systems, ensuring compliance with ISO9001, ISO14001 and ISO45001.
  • Monitor and audit sites, operations and procedures to ensue legal and regulatory compliance.
  • Advise operational teams and contractors on safe working practices in line with company procedures and legal requirements.
  • Develop, review, and update SHEQ policies, procedures, and standards to reflect best practice.
  • Investigate incidents, identify root causes, and recommend corrective actions.
  • Analyse and report SHEQ trends to senior management, recommending improvements.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental permit requirements and manage PAS110 certification.
  • Deliver and manage SHEQ training programmes, including internal auditor development.
  • Liaise with external auditors and regulatory bodies to maintain certifications and ensure compliance.
  • Other duties as required.

Professional qualifications

We are looking for someone with the following:

  • An auditing qualification or a minimum of 3 years' auditing experience in at least one of the following standards: ISO 9001, ISO 14001, or ISO 45001.
  • NEBOSH National General Certificate as a minimum.
  • Ideally holds a diploma-level or equivalent qualification in a health, safety, or environmental discipline.

Personal skills

The Senior SHEQ Advisor role would suit someone who is:

  • Proven SHEQ experience within a transferable heavy processing environment, such as biogas, water treatment, process plant, or similar.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of environmental and safety legislations
  • Experience in communicating with Environment Agency, other regulatory bodies and customers.
  • Flexible to travel across 2 plants.

Salary and benefits of the Senior SHEQ Advisor role
  • Salary between �45,000 - �55,000 (DOE).
  • Car allowance.
