We are now recruiting for the exciting role of Senior test Rig Design Engineer, to be involved in ​an industry leading, cutting-edge project for a new type of power station. ​
Job Purpose:
Rolls-Royce SMR Development Engineering is accountable for delivering a suite of test rigs to validate fluid models used to design the Rolls-Royce SMR power station.We now have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Test Design Engineer to join the Test Capability Team to deliver technical design development of thermal hydraulic test rigs that will underpin the power station performance modelling.Senior Test Rig Design Engineers will take a lead role in the design of thermal-hydraulic or mechanical test rigs to time and cost, under the technical supervision of a Test Lead. They will deliver engineering outputs through a series of gated reviews, requiring the use of systems engineering techniques to develop robust solutions that meet the project requirements. The role demands effective engagement with internal and external stakeholders, from preliminary concept stages through to detail design and implementation with external testing facilities. They will use their knowledge and experience to coach and support other test rig design engineers. We will consider applicants from a range of engineering disciplines, including mechanical, chemical and EC&I, providing they can demonstrate an ability to apply their skills to fluid system designs. Key Results & What Can Be Achieved in The Role:
Apply system-design and engineering techniques to develop test rigs from preliminary concept through to detailed design, with a range of stakeholders.Produce and technically review design documents, including calculations, PI&Ds, system descriptions, and operating philosophies, and develop engineering assessments to specify unit operations for the assigned test rig.Use relevant internal and external guidance material and standards to ensure deliverables conform to relevant best practice and are safe by design, including leading HAZOP and FMECA activities. Manage and plan own time to ensure delivery to cost, quality and schedule.Manage and escalate technical and programme risks to the Test Lead as appropriate.Act as an independent technical representative for assigned test rigs at technical and project reviews.Use knowledge and experience to coach and support other test rig design engineers. The Key Selection Criteria:
Systems Engineering Have a systems-thinking mindset, including experience of collaborating within multi-discipline teams to define and manage system requirements.Design ExperienceExperience in delivering engineering design solutions (fluid systems design is desirable), including experience applying technical governance within a design process.Have the ability to manage time to produce design documents to a high quality and at pace.Interpersonal and Communication Skills Have the ability to take complex information, understand it and present it in an appropriate and compelling format, which includes formal communications to the appropriate stakeholders & audiences within and outside of your area of expertise.Problem Solving Have the ability to identify risk or issues early and proactively resolve problems with minimal supervision.Have a proactive, positive attitude, with the desire and ability to learn fast, challenge conventional thinking and make a difference.Safety Culture Have the ability to model strong and positive safety behaviours and to instil it in others, including respectfully challenging others and taking the initiative to build a strong safety culture. Qualifications & Training:
- Qualified to degree level or equivalent in engineering discipline.- Chartered (or equivalent) or working towards chartership with a relevant professional body.Confidence can sometimes hold us back from applying for a job. Pay and Benefits
We anticipate paying a salary of between £50,000 - £62,000k. The benchmark for a fully competent applicant is £60,000, Bonus - Performance related bonus of up to 12.5% Benefits Allowance – £#####, enabling you to create a bespoke package Pension - 12% employer and 6% employee contributions. Holidays - 28 days holiday (+ public holidays) and the ability to buy or sell up to 4 days Private Medical Insurance - BUPA single cover health care Life Assurance - 6x pensionable pay £250 - One-off payment for new starters for home office purchases
