Senior Wind Turbine Technician - Scotland (North)
Salary : £45-50k
Due to unprecedented growth in their UK wind turbine service and maintenance business, our clientsare looking for an experienced and capable Senior Wind Turbine Technician to join our existing team. This role is vital to strengthen and extend our wind turbine installation, supply, operation, and maintenance service operations.
The Role:
Reporting to the Operations Director, you will be responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of clients wind turbine equipment. This involves maintaining, testing, and repairing mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems within the turbines. As a Senior Technician, you will play an integral role in driving high-quality standards, effective teamwork, and excellent communication to ensure the success of the operation. You will also be responsible for guiding and mentoring junior team members and helping them develop their skills.
Although this position is predominantly based in the Aberdeenshire/Perthshire region, the role requires a considerable amount of travel between sites and occasionally time away from home to support other regions for training and operational support.
You will bring your technical expertise in wind energy to the forefront, promoting the transition to clean energy solutions in the UK. Your professionalism will be key to driving operational efficiency and ensuring that our service remains at the forefront of the wind turbine industry.
General Duties and Responsibilities:
Carry out scheduled and unscheduled servicing, maintenance, wind turbine inspections, fault finding, and repairs on a range of wind turbines and their electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic systems.
Supervise and guide junior technicians, ensuring that tasks are completed to a high standard and in line with operational guidelines.
Follow weekly and monthly schedules of work as well as annual service schedules set by the Operations Manager. This may include approved overtime and travel away from home to support the team.
Replace faulty components such as sensors, control systems, and gearboxes, following established procedures and safety processes.
Carry out preventive maintenance tasks based on manufacturer guidelines to minimize downtime and maximise turbine efficiency.
Ensure sufficient supplies of parts and consumables are available to carry out duties. Maintain an up-to-date list of stock, tools, and equipment in your vehicle.
Monitor and analyze turbine performance data to identify trends and areas for improvement.
Produce work, service, and inspection reports, recording findings in a timely and accurate manner.
Assist with the refurbishment of wind turbines and their components.
Ensure all work is completed efficiently to meet company deadlines and financial goals.
Work in a logical, organised, and systematic manner.
Ensure compliance with all health and safety guidance, site rules, and regulations. Stay up-to-date with new guidance as it is issued.
Maintain documentation and regular communication with the operations team to ensure knowledge of all sites.
Proactively identify potential problems in the field and offer solutions to technical issues.
Adhere to all safety protocols at all times, ensuring a secure working environment.
Maintain comprehensive and accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, and parts inventories.
Regularly travel throughout England and occasionally to Wales, Northern Ireland, and Scotland, as required.
Comply with all company policies and procedures, and support the companys strategic objectives.
Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:
Essential :
A relevant technical qualification in electrical, mechanical, or renewable energy engineering.
Proven experience in a similar senior technician role within the renewable energy or wind energy industry.
Demonstrable ability to supervise, lead teams, and manage projects with a methodical approach.
Strong experience in team building, motivating others, and promoting employee satisfaction and development.
Excellent spoken and written communication skills in English.
Solid experience in mechanical and/or electrical engineering, with a proven ability in fault finding and problem-solving.
Ability to deliver high-quality work in a professional manner.
Strong communication skills with managers, clients, and contractors.
Must pass a RUK wind industry standard medical assessment to ensure fitness for working at heights.
Willingness and ability to travel regularly, including overnight stays away from home if required.
Competent with IT systems and Microsoft Office (including Outlook).
Comfortable working at heights and in varying weather conditions.
Full UK Driving Licence.
