We are looking for an experienced Service Charge Accountant to join my clients team on a permanent basis. This role is ideal for someone with a strong background in the housing sector who is passionate about ensuring accurate and transparent financial management of service charges.

Description

  • Prepare and manage annual service charge budgets, ensuring accuracy and compliance with relevant legislation.
  • Calculate and issue service charge statements to residents, providing clear explanations of charges and responding to any queries.
  • Conduct regular reconciliations of service charge accounts, ensuring all income and expenditure is correctly accounted for.
  • Collaborate with property managers and other departments to gather and verify information for service charge calculations.
  • Lead the process for year-end service charge accounts, including the preparation of audit packs and liaising with auditors.
  • Monitor and review service charge expenditure, identifying any variances and recommending corrective actions.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant housing sector regulations and best practices.
  • Provide training and support to non-finance staff on service charge processes and financial controls.

Profile

  • Proven experience in a similar role within the housing sector is essential.
  • Strong understanding of service charge accounting, including relevant legislation and regulatory requirements.
  • Part-qualified or fully qualified in a relevant accounting qualification (ACCA, CIMA, CIPFA, etc.).
  • Excellent analytical skills, with a keen eye for detail and accuracy.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain complex financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and MS Office, particularly Excel.
