Westlakes Recruit are currently recruiting for Service Protection Engineer with a background in engineering/construction to be engaged on a permanent basis in Whitehaven, Cumbria.
Profile
As a Service Protection Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in coordinating utility identification and mapping efforts, conducting risk assessments, and developing plans to mitigate potential hazards. You will be responsible for ensuring regulatory compliance, collaborating with stakeholders, and obtaining necessary permits. Additionally, you will support the integration of new technologies into utility protection plans and provide training on new tools.
Responsibilities

  • Coordinate utility identification and mapping efforts
  • Conduct risk assessments and develop plans for mitigating potential hazards
  • Ensure regulatory compliance and obtain necessary permits
    • Carry out desktop studies and field studies prior to issuing a permit to break ground
    • Mark out all known utility positions within the works area
    • Brief the excavation supervisors of the known risks and utility information of the work area and the permit
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to integrate new technologies into utility protection plans
  • Coordinate Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) surveys
  • Provide training on new tools and technologies
  • Contribute to continuous improvement by updating plans and conducting pilot tests for emerging technologies
  • Foster collaboration within and beyond the organization
  • Monitor performance and develop teams
  • Ensure effective communication and adherence to established standards

Qualifications

  • Experience in Utility protection or similar
    • Must be familiar with PAS128
    • Must hold a minimum of an NVQ or QCF level 3 in utility mapping
    • Must be familiar with HSG47
  • Strong understanding of regulatory requirements
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders
  • Experience with Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) surveys preferred
  • Proven track record of continuous improvement and innovation
