Sessional Delivery Driver
Location: Different locations across London, primarily Waltham Forest and central London Boroughs
Salary: £13.15 per hour basic plus pro rata leave and bank holiday allowance
Contract: Sessional contract
Hours: Sessional hours to cover staff absence and annual leave. Vehicle provided during working hours
The Role
Do you enjoy driving and being part of a team? The organisation are seeking a pool of sessional drivers to support the delivery of a number of projects across the capital delivering essential support to Londoners in need. You will provide cover for annual leave, absence and additional capacity.
The Sessional Delivery Driver will support projects including:
- Waltham Forest Food Hub: You will be required to complete collections and deliveries of surplus food to food banks in Waltham Forest. Food Hub is based in Chingford.
- Rework, their white goods and furniture refurbishment project. Collecting raw product and delivering refurbished goods.
- The Loop, a furniture reuse and refurbishment project. Collecting unwanted furniture and delivering refurbished goods
- The Green Team, horticulture training teams. Delivering materials to sites and collecting green waste.
Across each of these projects, you would be required to complete collections and deliveries of goods, load and unload the goods, at times you would be required to support in the warehouses. Full training and PPE will be provided in manual handling and food hygiene, and domestic appliance installation if required.
This role is sessional. Each month, the organisation will share a series of dates they are requesting to be worked by the Sessional Delivery Driver, The Sessional Delivery Driver can accept or turn down the dates offered. Furthermore, the organisation will contact you to cover emergency cover where required. Again the Sessional Delivery Driver can accept of turn down dates offered.
Start dates for sessional Delivery Driver will be 8am or earlier.
Key Responsibilities
- Responsible for the maintenance, upkeep and possession of the organisation vehicle during working hours. Maintain company vehicle in clean and roadworthy condition.
- Complete project tasks as directed by Project Manager / Coordinator.
- Ensure correct handling, storage and transportation of goods, in line with health and safety and food hygiene standards.
- Maintain vehicle in clean and roadworthy condition as required by the organisation Vehicle policy.
- Drive company vehicles in a manner that complies with the Highway Code, and respects fellow road users.
- Route planning ahead of journeys, such as checking maps, using Satellite Navigation as provided and locating addresses.
- Ensure safe transportation and storage of goods at all times.
- Use safe lone working practices, such as using WhatsApp to communicate with team.
- Complete goods collections and deliveries to/ from partner organisations, including loading and unloading duties.
- Ensure correct handling, storage and transportation of goods, in line with Health and Safety and Food Hygiene standards.
- Utilise loading equipment as required, such as a pump truck.
- Adhere to health and safety procedures in all aspects of the role.
- Assist in warehousing duties as required.
Skills and Qualifications
- A full driving license and confidence to drive long wheel base van
- Able to undertake manual handling on a daily basis (training and PPE provided)
- Proactive with a can-do attitude and ability to work in a team.
- Good customer service skills and communication.
