CP7 brings the opportunity to deliver capital works in new ways. By understanding the limitations of our traditional contracting models and taking on board lessons from other sectors, we can deliver greater efficiency by adopting a more progressive, value-based model. The Southern Renewals Enterprise has three distinct but integrated entities: the Capable Owner; the Southern Integrated Delivery; the Ecosystem. The Enterprise is accountable for the Southern Region s renewals portfolio for 10 years - CP7 & CP8 - with a total value of around £9 billion. The SID is a fully integrated team that brings together the strengths, capabilities, and knowledge of the partners and Network Rail. It owns the renewals work bank, manages it at portfolio level and drives a transition to a production management ethos. The four partners, VolkerFitzpatrick, Octavius, Atkins, and VolkerRail are aligned to the core asset disciplines with the fifth partner, Network Rail Minor Works, being multi-disciplinary for low complexity, low value works. Job Purpose The purpose of this role is to provide direction and leadership to developing innovative engineering solutions that drive a new approach to production and delivery. The role will also provide overall professional leadership of the engineering discipline within SID. Acting as a figure head, point of escalation and representing the SID engineering discipline at a senior level both within and external to the organisation. Key Accountabilities Evaluate Partner and industry engineering best practice and technology and deliver of plan for implementation across the SID organisation. This shall include harmonising process and technology in field activities. Shall drive engineering innovation into the organisation, leading and facilitating engineering teams from across the SID organisation to innovate and realise efficiencies and outcome improvements. Lead the Engineering profession within SID. Co-ordinate the development and implementation of engineering process across SID pulling together the engineering teams from the Delivery teams and the central engineering assurance team. Lead and facilitate engineering learning and the realisation of that learning into the SID. This will involve creating a self-learning Engineering organisation and developing processes for capturing learning and managing knowledge. Develop engineering quality KPIs and using these to drive continuous improvement into the organisation. Provide leadership and support to the engineering teams working across the SID to achieve the desired organisational culture and deliver in line with the SID Charter and SID Outcomes. All actions, decisions and behaviours shall be consistent with best for portfolio and aligned to the cultural ambitions of the SID Charter and Enterprise aims. Creating and maintaining effective engineering stakeholder management, including with the Capable Owner, Routes and Technical Authority. SID wide Engineering processes and procedures Delivery plan for engineering innovation Engineering innovation embedded within delivery teams Knowledge management process Knowledge learning process Job Skills, Experience and Qualifications Demonstrable collaborative attitude and behaviour Genuine leader with a natural strategic approach Builds enthusiasm and positivity amongst colleagues Growth mindset with a passion for learning Enjoys working as part of a team Experience and knowledge: Experience in senior railway engineering roles, ideally in both client and supply side. A proven track record of working in collaborative arrangements and in the successful, safe operational delivery of complex multidisciplinary railway engineering projects Experience in working within a matrix organisation and the ability to develop high performing collaborative teams within such an environment. Experience in transformational change, highly communicative and comfortable leading teams through emerging strategies and plans. The ability to act as a strategic thinker whilst maintaining a head for operational detail. Experience in developing standards, providing guidance and monitoring achievement of the standards. Well-developed leadership, communication, negotiating, influencing and interpersonal skills, with the drive and commitment to achieve programme/portfolio -wide objectives. Qualifications: Chartered Engineer Suitable professional membership in a relevant engineering (ICE, IET, IMechE) or Construction Management discipline. In the event of the post-holder not holding one of these memberships, you will gain this within 12 months of taking up the post.
