Sighted Guide
First Class Support provides academic support to students in receipt of disabled student allowance (DSA). Due to continued expansion, we are looking for a Sighted Guide to galvanise our team of highly qualified and experienced support staff.
Your role as a Sighted Guide will be to provide practical and mobility support to assist students with visual impairments in manoeuvring around. This could include carrying books, IT equipment, and other apparatus the student needs for their academic studies.
You will also be responsible to provide general orientation and to help locate specific areas for students. Your role will also include ‘Social Support’ which will ensure access to the wider aspects of student life. While some of these tasks, such as carrying equipment for a student with mobility difficulties, will need to continue throughout a student’s course, others, such as general orientation, could decrease as the student becomes more able to manage independently.
Your Skills: You will possess experience/understanding of providing support for disabled adults especially visually impaired people and demonstrate a willing to gain thorough knowledge of the campus.
You will possess excellent interpersonal skills and a desire to act independently to benefit the academic experience of the student(s).
We are ideally looking for someone who is educated to Bachelor level, who can demonstrate a bright and enthusiastic demeanour towards academia.
No mandatory qualifications or professional body membership is required.
This position has flexible working patterns, and access to continuous training & development.
