Site Manager Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly organized and motivated Site Manager to ensure the smooth and efficient planning, management, and resourcing of site activities. The successful candidate will be responsible for the safe and optimal operation of all plant, equipment, and personnel, while delivering excellent service to both internal and external customers.

Site Manager Key Responsibilities:

Operational:

  • Ensure support and resources are available to maintain efficient operations.
  • Liaise with various internal departments, external outlets, and hauliers to arrange material movements and transfers.
  • Ensure the quality of materials from the site meets off-takers' specifications.
  • Upload and maintain all relevant information needed for reporting and record-keeping, including daily site records and weekly returns.
  • Evaluate operational performance and ensure the effective utilization of operational resources (e.g., plant and personnel).
  • Ensure all plant and equipment are operational and maintained according to company policy; report any defective equipment to the plant and maintenance department promptly.
  • Monitor bin container stocks and maintain accurate records.
  • Assist management with the identification, planning, and delivery of projects and site improvements.

HSQE:

  • Develop and implement safe systems of work, including risk assessments and method statements.
  • Ensure all operations comply with current HSQE legislation and company management systems and policies.
  • Undertake site safety inspections, support HSQE and client audits, and ensure timely resolution of any non-conformances.
  • Provide visible HSQE leadership while promoting and progressing safe working practices across all operations to minimize incidents and injuries.
  • Review and action compliance assessment and monitoring reports, liaising with the Environment Agency and planning authority regularly to maintain compliance.
  • Ensure all data returns are submitted to the Environment Agency or planning authority in a timely manner.
  • Adhere to Transfrontier Shipment Regulations, ensuring Annexes are completed correctly and fully.

People:

  • Recruit skilled operators and site management teams to meet site requirements.
  • Manage and motivate teams, set clear expectations, and provide feedback on individual performance both informally and formally as needed.
  • Ensure all operatives and site staff are fully trained and competent to perform their tasks safely and efficiently.
  • Hold regular meetings with third-party labour providers, ensuring any agency labour employed is fully trained and competent.

Education / Qualifications / Certifications:

  • CIWM WAMITAB (essential)
  • IOSH Managing Safely
  • First Aid Certificate (4-day)
  • Fire Marshal
  • Asbestos Awareness
  • Full UK driving licence

Site Manager Key Requirements:

  • Extensive experience in a similar role in site management within the waste management sector.
  • Knowledge and understanding of all relevant health and safety, environmental, and planning regulations.
  • Knowledge and understanding of environmental permits and waste returns.
  • Strong planning and organizational skills to deliver operational excellence and efficiency.
  • Ability to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills at all levels, with the ability to work under pressure.
  • Proficiency in using a range of software, including the MS Office suite.
