JOB TITLE: Site Reliability Engineer – Next Gen Core Lab

SALARY: £68,202pa to £75,780pa plus the benefits mentioned below

LOCATION: Manchester

HOURS: Full-Time.

WORKING PATTERN: Our work style is hybrid, and the role will require the successful candidate to be spending at least two days per week, or a minimum of 40% of their time in the Manchester hub.

Job Profile Summary 

An exciting opening has arisen for a Site Reliability Engineer within the Core Banking System Platform.   We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Site Reliability Engineer to join our dynamic team within the Next Gen Core/Next Gen Insights Lab.   In this role, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the quality and reliability of our Core Banking System, specifically Thought Machine Vault.   This is a rare opportunity to join the team as a Site Reliability Engineer as we work to deliver the first of many new Banking products onto Vault.

A typical day in this role would include… What your key accountabilities will be 

  • Acting as a Subject Matter Expert providing technical decision making and mentoring.

  • Streamlining operational processes through automation and systems thinking.

  • Supplying technical leadership during service outages to recover services through incident and problem management.

  • Leading and contributing to blameless post-mortems for serious incidents.

  • Improving and embedding new SRE practices to improve levels of service.

  • Managing DevOps tooling services through the service lifecycle, including risk management and compliance.

  • Understanding Engineering Teams’ challenges and help them deliver value through consultancy and the implementation of robust DevOps solutions.

  • Creating sustainable change and build capabilities.

  • Ensuring security best practices and compliance with industry standards and regulations.

  • Working closely with other teams to ensure seamless integration and delivery.

  • Communicating effectively with stakeholders to understand requirements and provide updates.

  • Identifying and implement performance improvements in systems and applications.

  • Conducting capacity planning to ensure systems can handle future growth.

 About you

  • Experience as an SRE, Software Engineer, DevOps Engineer, or in a similar software or cloud role.

  • Demonstrable working knowledge of CI/CD – Jenkins/GitHub Actions/Harness.

  • Demonstrable working knowledge of Monitoring – Dynatrace/Splunk/Grafana/Prometheus.

  • Strong critical thinking skills, leading live support, incident management, and resolution.

  • Technical leadership experience.

  • Strong understanding of SRE concepts and principles.

  • Experience with CI/CD across various tooling and a good understanding of DevOps.

  • Excellent analytical skills and the ability to work methodically and diligently.

  • Programming and scripting experience.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

  • A passion for service, ensuring our colleagues and customers receive the most reliable service possible.

  • Ensuring security best practices and compliance with industry standards and regulations.

  • Cross-functional collaboration and stakeholder communication.

  • Performance tuning and capacity planning.

  • Capacity planning to ensure systems can handle future growth.

  • Experience supporting and implementing high-availability systems.

It would also be great if you had experience of:  

  • Cloud Platforms – GCP, AWS, Azure.

  • Containerization – Kubernetes/Docker.

  • Experience administering – Nexus RM / Nexus Firewall / Nexus Lifecycle / SonarQube.

  • Infrastructure as Code e.g., Chef, Terraform, Ansible, Puppet.

  • ITIL or Service management experience.

  • Formal software development experience.

  • Agile work practices.

  • Application Lifecycle Management.

  • Software Delivery Lifecycle.

  • Disaster recovery planning and high availability design.

  • Advanced scripting skills in Python, Bash, or PowerShell.
