Job Title: Smokefree Engagement Officer

Location: Walsall Council
Assignment Duration: Initial 3 months with a further 11 months, dependent on performance
Pay Rate: £18.72 - £20.98 per hour (PAYE)
Work Mode: Hybrid

About the Role

\n

We are seeking a proactive Smokefree Engagement Officer to support smokefree initiatives by promoting tobacco cessation and reducing exposure to second-hand smoke. Working within the Public Health and with Environmental Health, you will engage with local workplaces and communities, advocating for smoke-free environments and increasing access to stop smoking services. This role requires strong stakeholder engagement, project management, and communication skills.

Key Responsibilities:

    Develop and promote smoke-free initiatives in collaboration with businesses and communities across Walsall.

  • \n

    Work with HR teams and local stakeholders to implement and enforce smoke-free workplace policies.

  • \n
  • \n

    Co-ordinate brief advice training to be delivered to Walsall's frontline staff to motivate employees/residents to quit tobacco

  • \n

    Raise awareness through engagement activities, presentations, and public health campaigns.

    \n
  • \n
  • \n

    Collect and analyse data to evaluate the impact of smoke-free initiatives and improve service delivery.

  • \n

    Attend Walsall's Tobacco Control Alliance and collaborate with regional and national partners

Requirements:

\n
    \n
  • \n

    Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage and influence a variety of stakeholders.

  • \n
  • \n

    Self-motivated, able to work independently and manage a portfolio effectively.

    \n
  • \n
  • \n

    Experience in public health, community engagement, or policy advocacy is desirable.

    \n
  • \n
  • \n

    Knowledge of the tobacco control agenda and smoking-related health risks is an advantage.

    \n
  • \n
  • \n

    A National Council for Smoking Cessation Training (NCSCT) qualification is beneficial but not essential.

    A valid driver's license and access to a vehicle are required.

Work Arrangements:

    Field-based role with regular travel to workplaces in Walsall.

    Flexibility to work from home for administrative tasks.

    Some evening or weekend work may be required to meet service needs.
