Middlesbrough Council
Pre Birth Team
£32,654 - £42,708
The Pre-Birth Team plays a crucial role in supporting families before the birth of a child, particularly when there are concerns about the child's wellbeing or the family's ability to provide a safe and nurturing environment. Their duties focus on assessing the situation, providing support and intervention, and working collaboratively with various agencies to ensure the child's safe arrival and future.
Duties
- The team receives referrals from various sources, including healthcare professionals, social workers, or family members themselves, when concerns arise during pregnancy about the child's safety or the family's capacity to care for the child.
- They conduct initial assessments to gather information about the family's circumstances.
- Based on the assessment, the team determines the level of risk to the child and decides on the appropriate level of intervention.
- The team develops a pre-birth plan outlining the support and interventions needed to address identified risks and enhance the family's capacity to care for the child.
- The team works closely with the family and other professionals to implement the pre-birth plan.
- Team members may be present at the hospital during the birth, providing support to the mother and family.
- They conduct a post-birth assessment to evaluate the family's situation and determine if the original plan needs to be adjusted.
- If there are serious concerns about the child's safety, the team may initiate care proceedings, seeking court orders to protect the child.
- The team may develop child protection plans to ensure the child's safety and well-being, working with other professionals and agencies.
- The pre-birth team works closely with other agencies, such as the police, health services, and social work teams, to ensure a coordinated response and share information effectively.
- They build strong relationships with families, providing ongoing support, guidance, and advocacy.
