Job Type: Full-Time | Permanent

Salary: £40,000 per year (depending on experience) + Tronc

Hours: 48 hours per week



About the Role



We’re on the lookout for a Sous Chef to join our talented kitchen team at our charming country pub in the heart of the Surrey Hills. You’ll be second-in-command in the kitchen, working closely with the Head Chef to maintain high standards, bring fresh ideas to the menu, and help lead a positive, high-energy team.

Your Key Responsibilities





  • Support the Head Chef in daily kitchen operations




  • Take charge in the Head Chef’s absence




  • Lead service and ensure smooth day-to-day kitchen flow




  • Oversee food preparation, cooking, and presentation




  • Contribute to menu planning and dish development




  • Ensure food hygiene and safety standards are consistently met




  • Train, supervise, and mentor junior kitchen staff




  • Manage inventory, ordering, and stock rotation





What We’re Looking For





  • Proven experience as a Sous Chef or Senior Chef de Partie (minimum 3–4 years)




  • Strong leadership and communication skills




  • Excellent culinary skills with a good understanding of seasonal, fresh cooking




  • Calm, organised, and able to thrive in a busy kitchen




  • A passion for food, hospitality, and team collaboration




  • A good grasp of food safety, allergen, and hygiene regulations





Preferred but not essential:





  • Formal culinary training




  • Driving licence (due to rural location)




  • Ability to commute or relocate to Ewhurst, Cranleigh (essential)
