Job Overview :
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Special Education Needs (SEN) Nurse to join our team and provide expert healthcare support to children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities. The SEN Nurse will work closely with families, educational staff, and healthcare professionals to ensure the physical, emotional, and developmental well-being of each child, enabling them to thrive in their educational setting.
Key Responsibilities : Clinical Care : Deliver high-quality nursing care to children with special education needs, including those with complex medical conditions, ensuring individualized health care plans (IHCPs) are developed, implemented, and monitored.
Health Assessments : Conduct regular health assessments, monitor medical conditions, and administer treatments as needed (e.g., medications, tube feeding, tracheostomy care).
Education Collaboration : Collaborate with teachers, SEN coordinators, and support staff to integrate healthcare needs with educational plans, ensuring children can access their education in a safe environment.
Family Support : Work with families to provide education and guidance on managing health conditions at home, acting as a liaison between the school and family to ensure continuity of care.
Training and Support : Provide training and guidance to school staff on managing health-related issues such as allergies, seizures, and emergency care, ensuring they are confident in handling medical concerns during school hours.
Health Promotion : Promote overall health and well-being among students by supporting healthy lifestyle choices, monitoring vaccinations, and advising on nutrition and hygiene.
Safeguarding and Well-being : Play an active role in safeguarding the health and welfare of vulnerable children and young people, recognizing and responding to signs of physical, emotional, or mental health concerns.
Essential Qualifications and Experience : Registered Nurse (RN) with a valid NMC Pin.
Experience working with children or young people with special education needs and disabilities (SEND).
Knowledge of child development, SEN frameworks, and healthcare needs in an educational setting.
Understanding of safeguarding protocols and procedures.
Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team, including healthcare professionals, teachers, and parents.
Excellent communication and organizational skills, with the ability to manage a diverse caseload.
Desirable Qualifications : Experience in paediatric nursing, school nursing, or community healthcare.
Additional qualifications or training in special education needs or disability care.
Knowledge of local and national SEN policies and guidelines.
Personal Attributes : Empathetic, patient, and approachable, with a genuine passion for supporting children with special needs.
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make quick, informed decisions in complex situations.
A proactive and flexible approach to working, with excellent time management skills.
