An opportunity has arisen for a Systems Engineer to join Airbus Defence & Space working on Military Satellite Communications (Milsatcom) at our base in Portsmouth, UK. You will be joining our team of Lead Systems Engineers and Architects, reporting directly to our Future Milsatcom Studies Team Lead.
The Systems Engineer will provide the system architecture definition for the pending tender opportunities with the UK MOD (Skynet Enduring Capability) and other Milsatcom programmes - covering the space, control and ground segments. We see this as a great opportunity to be part of some diversified and future looking programmes.
Airbus Defence and Space is proud of what it has been able to achieve with a track record in delivery Milsatcom capability to the UK MOD from Skynet 4 to the successful industry/military PFI (Skynet 5) and currently under contract to deliver Skynet 6A on orbit, setting the standard and establishing what can be done with inter-satellite links, navigation and space-based networks. These are engaged roles within teams directly working the next wave of these technologies.
HOW YOU WILL CONTRIBUTE TO THE TEAM
Requirements capture and definition from stakeholder needs through to sub-systems; ownership of traceability and verification.
Verification Validation and Test (VV&T) support
Ground System level architectural design definition and trade-offs
Working with Engineering Leads and Partners to define the segment and associated sub-system architectures via integrated Working Groups
Technical proposal inputs
Solution Lead for customer and internal governance reviews
Technical support to bidding teams
Systems Engineering and project management inputs as required - to support planning, schedule and cost activities
Inform stakeholders on progress and problem resolution
ABOUT YOU
University degree or equivalent in Electronic Engineering, Computer Science, Telecommunications, or related discipline
Experience in the design, integration and roll out of end to end digital telecommunications systems (milsatcom desirable) covering
space, control and ground segments using Waterfall or Agile methodologies
Experience of defining solutions within an Architectural Framework using Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) and appropriate tools (EA desirable)
Ex perience of engagement with customers and partners
Working understanding of of portfolios in terms of satellite platforms and payloads, satellite control, mission control, network control
Robust presentation and writing skills
