Teacher of English with Head of Department Needed in Leyland, Lancashire

Location: Midge Hall, near Leyland, Lancashire

Salary: M1 - UPS2 plus an additional £1,500 per annum for expertise

Hours: 40 hours per week - Term Time Only

About the Academy

This Academy Group is a forward-thinking provider of education and care for children, young people, and adults with special educational needs and disabilities. Their independent day school in Lancashire caters to young people with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) challenges.

Position: Lead Teacher - English, Literacy, Phonics & Careers Education Information, Advice & Guidance (CEIAG)

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and coordinate English instruction across the school.
  • Manage and oversee English-related approaches and assessments, including literacy and phonics.
  • Ensure literacy and phonics interventions are effectively coordinated, delivered, and tracked.
  • Enhance English as a key component of the academic curriculum, aiming for improved student progress and outcomes.
  • Provide staff training as needed.
  • Report relevant progress and teaching/learning quality information to the Senior Leadership Team (SLT).
  • Serve as Careers Officer, ensuring compliance with the Gatsby Benchmarks.

Qualifications:

  • PGCE, QTS, Cert Ed, or equivalent teaching qualification with evidence of in-service training.
  • Relevant experience with SEN, SLD/PMLD, and ASD students.
  • Knowledge of Safeguarding principles and Child Protection procedures.
  • Experience managing various behavioural approaches, including challenging behaviours.

Successful Candidates Will Demonstrate:

  • Proven ability to deliver a differentiated curriculum to students with diverse needs.
  • Experience working in a therapeutic environment.
