SEN Teacher - Guildford

We are currently working closely with a specialist SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) school dedicated to providing a nurturing and inclusive environment for students with a range of emotional, mental, and behavioural needs. Their main focus is on supporting students to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally, with a strong emphasis on tailored interventions and individual support.

The Role:
We are seeking a passionate and dedicated KS3 Teacher to join the team and work with a class of Year 7 students, many of whom are working at a KS2 level. Due to the nature of the class, the role is suitable for both primary and secondary trained teachers who have experience supporting students with a variety of learning needs, particularly those with social, emotional, and mental health challenges.

As a teacher in this setting, you will play a key role in supporting students' academic progress while fostering their emotional and social development. You will need to adopt a nurturing, patient, and flexible approach, with a focus on creating a safe and supportive classroom environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging lessons that are differentiated to meet the individual needs of students working at KS2 level.
  • Provide a supportive and calm classroom atmosphere to help students feel safe and motivated to learn.
  • Implement strategies to support students' emotional well-being and mental health, using a trauma-informed approach where needed.
  • Work closely with teaching assistants and support staff to ensure that all students are engaged and supported in their learning.
  • Develop individual education plans (IEPs) and monitor progress, adapting strategies to best support each student.
  • Collaborate with parents, carers, and external professionals to ensure holistic support for each student's development.
  • Promote positive behaviour management techniques and de-escalation strategies to support students' social and emotional growth.
  • Offer a nurturing approach to your teaching

The Ideal Candidate:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) - Primary or Secondary qualified.
  • Experience working with students with SEMH or similar needs, either in a school setting or other relevant environments (e.g., youth work, care settings).
  • A nurturing and patient approach with the ability to build strong, trusting relationships with students.
  • Experience working with students who may have experienced trauma or have mental health challenges is highly desirable.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • A flexible and adaptable mindset, with a focus on solutions and a commitment to ensuring each child succeeds.
  • Strong behaviour management skills
