SEN Teaching Assistant
Location: Wakefield, West Yorkshire
Salary: £11.72 - £12.78 per hour, depending on experience (£19,370.70 - £21,122.66 actual salary)
Hours: 37 hours per week - Term Time Only

We are seeking dedicated and skilled SEN Teaching Assistants to join our team, supporting young people aged 11-19 with a range of complex needs, including autism, learning disabilities, and communication difficulties.

The Role
As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will support students with their learning, development, and overall well-being. Your role involves working in a caring and supportive environment to ensure each student can achieve their full potential. This includes providing assistance with care needs when necessary, helping to manage behaviour, and tailoring your support to meet individual sensory and communication needs.

You will be expected to form positive relationships with pupils, helping them feel safe, supported, and engaged in their learning. Working alongside a team of professionals, you will promote personal growth, independence, and maintain high standards of behaviour.

You will assist the class teacher in delivering challenging, differentiated activities as part of a broad and balanced curriculum, ensuring students have opportunities to reach their full potential. Flexibility is essential, as responsibilities can change depending on the needs of the students.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in planning and evaluating educational activities.
  • Provide feedback on student progress and support their personal development.
  • Help manage behaviour positively, adapting to individual needs.
  • Work collaboratively with other professionals to provide effective support.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Experience working with SEN students, either paid or voluntary.
  • A Level 2 or higher qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning (preferred).
  • GCSE Maths and English (Grade C/Level 2 or above) - essential.
  • Understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures.
  • Ability to follow plans and adapt to meet individual needs.
  • Positive, creative approach to supporting students' learning and development.
