This is an exciting opportunity to join the IT Team within the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering. The main purpose of the role is to assist the IT team with technical and administrative support to ensure the delivery of a high-quality IT support service to users within the school. You will be required to install, configure and maintain IT equipment and software and diagnose and rectify faults with both Windows and Apple systems and peripheral equipment. You will assist with the preparation of computing laboratories and equipment for teaching purposes and support the deployment and testing of software images. You will be responsible for ad hoc audio-visual support and assist in the development and upkeep of the School website. You will also assist with the transfer and set up of computer equipment and preparing for redeployment or disposal of redundant equipment. Overall, you will be part of the IT team in the School and will work alongside other IT technicians in other areas, building up a diverse knowledge of the IT support needed to successfully assist staff and students through their education and research work. About the person: You must have: a minimum of ONC/OND and/or NVQ 3 (or equivalent qualification) in relevant subject (e.g. Computing, Information Technology or related subject). a minimum of 2 years recent relevant experience to include: providing technical support in a work environment; installation of systems and software and supporting MS Office, Exchange, Office 365 and Sharepoint. Excellent technical knowledge across a wide range of IT areas. As a skilled IT technician you will also have: Well-developed analytical and problem-solving capability. Good communication and interpersonal skills. The ability to interact with students, all categories of staff and external contact points. The ability to carry out a range of tasks, working with minimal direct supervision. Willingness to carry out evening work, as required, during semester time. Fixed term contract posts are available for the stated period in the first instance but in particular circumstances may be renewed or made permanent subject to availability of funding.
