A quick look at the role.
The purpose of the role is to efficiently receive and process bulk and packaged customer enquiries, on the phone and on e-mail. The role holder will produce technical sales quotations, present these quotations to customers and convert them into a completed sale. If required, they are to arrange for samples to be collected from customers sites and to perform lab analysis on them or to interpret lab analysis results to enable the production of a technical sales quotation. Also, they must prepare enquiries to be assessed by the Technical Assessors. The role holder is working to tight deadlines, stretching performance targets and providing excellent customer service to our customer base.

Ensure incoming customer calls and e-mails are answered promptly and professionally.
Work with the customer to achieve first call / contact resolution where possible.
Certain technical quotes will require you to organise the collection of samples, identify the relevant assessment criteria, to advise internal/external laboratories and to produce and/or interpret the resultant data.
Where a hazpack chemist has been utilised, ensure that their job information is uploaded to the system in a timely manner.
Obtain all the required technical information to be able to produce the technical sales quote and supply it to the customer within the technical SLAs.
Follow up technical sales quotes with the customers to close out the sale. Conversion rates of quotes in line with the technical SLAs.
To manage the processing and rectification of Haz Waste operational Non-Conformances, ensuring that responsibilities for actions are apportioned, that learning opportunities are secured, that actions are tracked and that the possibility of Biffa or our customers incurring enforcement action is minimised.
Identify and work with the depots and our suppliers to source the best value options for our customers hazardous waste.
When a quote is accepted by the customer, where required, upload the enquiry lines and pass to the Technical Assessors to complete the waste assessment.
This is an extremely complex and fast paced role which demands a high level of knowledge and experience and the ability to work across the entire breadth of the business, working at many levels and with a wide range of stakeholders, from account managers, to customers, to suppliers, maintaining the Companys corporate image at all times.
The job holder must possess the integrity to defend Biffas hard won reputation for, whilst ensuring that opportunities for compliant revenue generation are secured and developed. The job holder must be able to do this whilst operating in a fast paced environment, to short timescales within the commercial cut and thrust of the Haz Waste business but also within the group as a whole.
A lot of time will be spent on the phone talking to customers about their hazardous waste and providing them with the best value option. Time will also be spent in the lab putting sales samples through the analysis process, interpreting results and determining disposal options off the back of this.
You must be commercially and technical aware enough to be able to know when to sell additional services to the customers i.e. sample, Hazpack, industrial cleaning etc. Youll need to be able to build relationships with suppliers to gain an understanding of best value disposal routes for our waste streams.
You will be eligible for a role based incentive scheme. This will take into account metrics around call answering, abandonment, quotes sent, quote value, quote conversion and sale of add on services.
Heres what we require:
Essential:
A Level Chemistry (or similar).
Science Degree (Chemistry or similar).
Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
Effective time management skills.
Ability to work effectively unsupervised.
Ability to deal with conflict and negotiate / manage the appropriate outcome.
Organised with the ability to simplify complex issues.
Analytical; data driven decision making.
Desirable:
Working knowledge of the waste management industry.
Member of CIWM.
Demonstrable knowledge of Environment Agency guidance.
Knowledge of environmental compliance issues associated with waste classification, transport, packaging and labelling.
IT literate proficient in VBA programing.
